Naran

Naran is a somewhat mature young lady from Kennebunk(port?).  She thinks her property taxes are waaay too high.  Sure, Kennebunk(port?) is a nice place to live, very appealing, with good schools, and has high property values, but you’ve got to have something to complain about.

To her great credit, she was in favor of allowing gay marriage and is smart regarding issues relating to homosexuality. She is also a good moderator, from what I can tell. *

Probably the meanest thing I can say about her is that she has a tendency to use cutesy little catch phrases in her posts.  Things like referring to herself as “Miss Prunelope Pimstep, Auntie Mabel, Betsy Ross.”  There may be a completely hilarious context or backstory that I’m not familiar with, but my best current theory is that she uses this old-timey cutesy talk because the older men using the website find it erotic.

She must endeavor to be sexually appealing because the high taxes of Kennebunk(port?) have forced her towards a destructive life of prostitution.  It is through this lifestyle which she gained her tolerance of homosexuals.  In 1997 her “Madam,” a woman named Ms. Berrykins, invited her over for a few glasses of fine cabernet.  A summer storm knocked a tree down, blocking the the driveway to Ms. Berrykin’s home and preventing Naran from leaving.  Another bottle was opened, and after some awkward drunken foreplay Naran and Ms. Berrykins initiated their brief yet bitter affair. Their safe word was “Auntie Mabel.”

Although Naran never forgave Ms. Berrykins for leaving her two weeks later (for a young Italian carpenter named “Giorggio,” no less), she henceforth gained a respect for the strong feelings a person can have towards a member of the same gender.

Giorggio and Ms. Berrykins moved to Naples (the original one, in Italy), where they married, had three children and lived happily ever after until Giorggio became entangled in the feared Carpenter’s Mafia, which killed him after he accrued large debts on purchases of hardwood, 4 inch nails, and drywall.

*Once upon a time, when this website was young, fresh, and idealistic, I thought Naran was a pretty decent moderator. She seemed reserved and fair. But for whatever reason this has dramatically changed. She now spends nearly every waking hour policing every opinion presented on the site, metaphorically humping the Governor’s leg but only because she can’t get an appointment to hump it in person. Any opinion critical of anything the Governor does or supports is attacked vehemently. And, when there is a lull in the activity on AMG, she hits the Portland Press Herald and comments up to 60 times each day.

So I apologize. I was wrong. May whatever God you believe in forgive me. – AMGLOLZ on April 15, 2011.

Oh, it’s good. Effing hypocrites. Well done, Matt.

  2. erin says:

From what I understand, Matt discussed some personal information on the AMG forum that had to do with the conversation they were having after/during his liveblogging.

Naran took that information outside of AMG and posted that the reason she took the thread down was because of his personal information. Except she was highly unprofessional and was very specific about the information, which is where she made her misstep.

On their ‘where’s the thread’ thread, she continues her attack.

I don’t think Matt needs or needed to defend himself for his comments. There were other folks in the ‘where’s the thread’ thread at AMG who actually stated some things that aren’t foreign to the rest of us about the Republican party in Maine, about Charlie, and she didn’t pounce on them or ridicule them.

I think she went after Matt for a reason, and it was personal. I couldn’t believe that he was also told that having been on AMG for five years, he ‘should have known’ that he’d have gotten that type of reaction for his comments.

If the general theme at AMG is ‘be a dbag if people don’t agree with you, and take your argument to completely unrelated forums’, I wonder what the draw is to the place to begin with.

  3. Average Joe says:

Matt, I hope you at least file a complaint against this shrew and make her squirm a bit.

  4. Did anyone here catch my final post on AMG before it was removed and I was banned?

  5. amglolz says:

Matt, I saw it. It is amazing how curated AMG is. That said, I didn’t think it helped your case when you say you have lawyers chomping at the bit. Your lawyers would probably tell you to cool it and let them do the talking,

This Charlie Webster vs. Ron Paul thing is really exposing some deep cracks that I didn’t know existed.

Or is it Charlie Webster vs. Charlie Webster’s stupidity?

  6. Average Joe says:

Maybe Matt can get Mark Cenci to sic his legal beagles on Naran. It worked so well against amglolz!

But it is true that pissing contests with skunks seldom work out well.

  7. wilson says:

No surprise, Matts thread on AMG has been deleted.

  8. erin says:

His thread was already deleted; sorry to hear you were banned, Matt. So much for their claim that they are welcoming and open to all opinions, even those who don’t align with theirs.

  9. Big Paw says:

I just had to sign up…That place is a source of endless entertainment !

  10. Average Joe says:

    Old Dame Fortune gets it:

Mark12345 said, “ODF, were you at the meeting?”

Id love to answer that but I dont want to have my personal and employment information plastered all over the BDN.

  11. Joe Mama says:

If I remember right, Matt wasn’t the one who posted his medical info. That was Thrasybulus, the former campaign manager of John Frary. Not sure how he got that info. He owns an inn, not a medical office.

  12. Jill says:

I do hope Matt takes this to court.

  13. Erin says:

After the past week or so of reversion to ridiculousness, I hope so, as well.

AMG has been quiet because the ‘moderator’ spends more of her time at BDN and PPH forums, trolling and snarking. I often wonder how many of the individuals that agree with her nonsense actually *know* her. (or, if they’re additional accounts she uses to flood forums with head-scratching statements)

  14. Big Paw says:

I wonder about that too. I’d love to be able to put AMG names to the PPH and BDN posters. I figure it’s the same dozen or so using aliases .

  15. Tim Wright says:

As much as I think The Narantula is a detestable old shrew, she (like a broken clock) is occasionally right. Apollo and Pastor Bob defend NOM’s law-breaking, but she’s on their case like stink on shit, and she really does need to be commended for this one.

Now back to our regularly scheduled contempt…..

  16. Joe Mama says:

I don’t think there are any more moderators there anymore. They seem to have left town around the time the Webster implosion occurred.

Naran is holding up the whole thing on her own as it lists further and further to the right and is about to collapse under the weight of its imbalance.

  17. CV43 says:

I would like to humbly welcome myself to lolz. I did the best I could to hang in there at AMG, but alas, I could feel my insides starting to juice out like a rotten potato. Though just about everything there is wacked out beyond comprehension, I was surprised that it was a garden-variety “They’re all Socialists” thread that threw me over the edge. I guess I never saw it coming…

In any event, I’ve hung up my AMG cleats and feel cleaner and healthier for doing it.

It’s nice to be among friends…

    CV43

  18. Average Joe says:

Welcome!! We all knew it was coming. Inevitable was a word used frequently. I assume you got the same ignominious bum’s rush many of us got and now Naran will proclaim that you brought it on yourself and/or left of your own free will. Yes, welcome!

  19. CV43 says:

Truth be told…I did leave on my own free will. The good news is that I don’t seem to be suffering from anything like Stockholm Syndrome…I have not come to identify with my captors nor do I feel strangely protective of them.

I do feel incredibly grateful that I was able to get out alive since AMG/NaranLand is really like a web-based black hole where light cannot escape…..but I did and I feel really emotional about it.

  20. Average Joe says:

In which case Naran will crow about how you slinked away with your tail between your legs, devastated by the withering blast of truth, logic and common sense.

But do not be discouraged for you have chosen the better way!

  21. erin says:

I think, CV, had there been more rational conversations that didn’t involve pig-piling, that encouraged intelligent debate and didn’t devolve into some really wacky conspiracies, it might have been a different/better place.

I’ve stated it elsewhere, but I believe it to be the town gossip website, where ‘news’ bits are regurgitated from some rather unreliable sources, and they are then spit out as if gospel. It’s a rather unhealthy approach, when developing your perception of the world, to rely only on one conduit for information.

  22. Ruben says:

Erin, how can you say such things. Naran & Co. legitimize many of their clever, well thought out observations with numerous links from valued news “reporting” organizations such as Fox News, etc. And, as Auntie Mabel has remInded us in the past, she’s not just the site Gestapo, she is a “Journalist.” You’re just jealous!

  23. CV43 says:

I could always tell when Narant’s “critical thinking skills” were pushed beyond the breaking point because she would either resort to saying something insightful like “Zzzzzz”, or she’d paste pictures of babies sleeping. She’s like a Check Engine Light coming on after the fuel and O2 mix gets out of whack, and where you have to decide whether to expend resources to reset it or just put up with it by averting your eyes from the dashboard light.

  24. Tim Wright says:

Yeah, the echo in the chamber just got a little louder. What I found particularly odious was Vikingstar’s “Did we mean ol’ conservatives chase another delicate leftist away?” snarkiness. Yes, you fuckwad, you did. (I would LOVE it if he/she/it dared come here for a comment or two, without his/her/its’ safety net.)

    Anyway, Welcome, CV!

  25. Average Joe says:

I’d love to see a link to the “last showdown.”. I don’t read everything on AMG anymore . In fact, I hardly even look at it anymore.

  26. CV43 says:

Vikingstar feels good that he “chased” a leftist away… I guess. I think of it more like me getting on an elevator with him, and before I arrive at my floor, he starts farting uncontrollably. Rather than subject myself to his stench, I decide to get off the elevator to take the stairs. Sure, he can take pleasure that he chased me away. I, on the other hand, am left to wonder why he chooses to stay on the elevator to breathe in fart-air.

As for a “last showdown”…it was pretty anti-climatic. I could have jumped ship at any point these past few months, but it just occurred to me with sudden clarity, “Fuck it…my time as an anthropologist has come to an end.” And that was it.

  27. Jill says:

CV- Welcome back from the dark side.

  28. PB says:

Is Naran a wagon rider or a puller? She posts ad-nauseum at all hours which tells me she is a “rider”. She cant be working other than receiving a few crumbs when someone (foolishly) donates to that site. They way is see it, donations must be few and far between since the government has taken all their money and they have not a cent to spare
She lives in Kennebunk so something just doesnt jive…I cannot imagine there is a guy in the picture…If so, he must be either a saint or will soon be sharing a “rubber room with NRS

  29. chris coose says:

She worked that Portland Press article on TABOR’s return all day. When the covers get lifted, this old John Birch death odor arises. and Naran clearly has no idea how to deal with that stink. Can’t just spray her usual BS around to freshen up the place.

  30. PB says:

She chimed in this morning on the story about Scarborough raising beach parking charge at Higgans which gets the fee in line with the other two public beaches in the town….Mind you most visitors are from out of town

AND she is AGAINST it…Even though the beach in her town loses over !00K annually but thats just fine with her……Seriously, she bitches about the schools on a daily basis but is perfectly fine with a six figure annual beach operating deficit……You cant make this stuff up!

    http://www.pressherald.com/news/scarborough-beach-fee-makes-waves_2012-04-17.html

  31. chris coose says:

The comments on local problems and solutions other than her home town makes me think she is looking to take over from MD Harmon at the Press Herald. I don’t think she is religious enough for that though.
Wait a minute, how can a frikin beach in Maine lose money?

  32. Ruben says:

The fact is (can you use the word “fact” and “Naran” in the same sentence?) that Naran has no idea what the budgets really are. She just makes shit up based on whatever outrageous fidure she feels like throwing out there to seemingly make her point. It’s kind of like the way she pretends to know what it means to offer an informed, honest dialogue.
God, I hate her…does that make me a bad person?

  33. Joe Mama says:

Unless the Maine State GOP hands her talking points or shouts “sic ‘em!” while pointing at people, she is at a loss as to what to say. She has no opinions unless she gets them from those she looks up to. Charlie Webster being one of them and Paul LePage being another.

  34. PB says:

I have no idea where Kennebunk’s proposed school budget percentage increase stands but I’m actually pulling to see it come in over 8%, have it pass and see Naran completely lose her shit

  35. erin says:

I have to say, having seen her comments regarding the two now-broken-up legislators, I’m really questioning her sanity. Comments were actually shut down on PPH, but she made sure to slather them there, and at BDN.

Rather mortifying that she would blame a woman who takes out a TRO for what has befallen her. I was under the impression that she was pro-women, but she swiped that notion away with ferocity.

    Terrible.

  36. Big Paw says:

I sometimes wonder if she is a real person, or just one of John Frary’s alter egos.

  37. chris coose says:

Looks like I’ve been shitcanned. As I recall, I simply called one of the haters on his hatred of Barney Frank. Oh well, I’ve had no business playing in that pigstye for some time now.

  38. Average Joe says:

You mean when you told Dale Tudor he shall remain amazed until he comes to understand? That got you bounced? Wow, they’re getting even more touchy than they used to be.

AMG is so boring now. I hardly ever read it. I had to search to find a Barney Frank thread.

Oh, well. Welcome back to the side of enlightenment.

  39. Ruben says:

Well you certainly deserved it. I mean, you know, as Naran & Co. have helped me understand, Barney Frank was single handedly responsible for the whole home mortgage debacle. And even worse, he is totally a threat to my traditional marriage (although my wife says I am the only real threat to our traditional marriage). You just aren’t a good, God fearing, neighbor-loving Christian unless you hate Barney Frank.

  40. Average Joe says:

You gotta ridicule his speech impediment to properly belittle him — it’s Bawney Fwank.

    Just ask Rush.

  41. chris coose says:

Yep, the born again Christian, Dale Tudor opened a thread with this:

“1. Barney Frank is a disgusting human being, ……I am amazed that God has not had the earth open to swallow him and his household whole,” .

There is nothing left at AMG. I see things have slowed down here as a result of their bankruptsy and ugliness. What is there left to comment on?

  42. ExposeNRS says:

Since when is Naran a God-fearing, neighbor-loving Christian?

  43. Ruben says:

    Umm, that was sarcasm…

  44. ExposeNRS says:

Yes and no. I really want to know when Naran converted to Christianity. Though she would like us to believe that that’s what she’s all about, she was not raised as a Christian.

  45. Average Joe says:

I believe Naran was raised in the Church of Which Way the Wind is Blowing.

That is, which way it’s blowing in the weird universe she and her AMG cronies populate.

  46. ExposeNRS says:

Right on! Or as Naran would say: Oy Vey!

  47. chris coose says:

I have to take it back. Tried to register again and I’m in. Must have been some kind of glitch. I shall maintain my status to simply walk into the staggering moments of hypocricy and put a light on it, as I have been doing for the past couple of years.Gone are the days I stepped into the killing fields and got rocks thrown at my head.

  48. ExposeNRS says:

Do let us know how that’s working for you.

  49. erin says:

So the MSHA articles on PPH have been rather delightful; if you haven’t read the emails that went back and forth to oust Ms. McCormick, one item I found particularly interesting was a link to AMG. The idea that they are using that site as any sort of reference for their political agenda speaks volumes about their political savvy.

  50. Average Joe says:

Despite their reluctance to redefine marriage, they’ll have no trouble redefining crow as filet mignon.
