Naran is a somewhat mature young lady from Kennebunk(port?). She thinks her property taxes are waaay too high. Sure, Kennebunk(port?) is a nice place to live, very appealing, with good schools, and has high property values, but you’ve got to have something to complain about.
To her great credit, she was in favor of allowing gay marriage and is smart regarding issues relating to homosexuality. She is also a good moderator, from what I can tell. *
Probably the meanest thing I can say about her is that she has a tendency to use cutesy little catch phrases in her posts. Things like referring to herself as “Miss Prunelope Pimstep, Auntie Mabel, Betsy Ross.” There may be a completely hilarious context or backstory that I’m not familiar with, but my best current theory is that she uses this old-timey cutesy talk because the older men using the website find it erotic.
She must endeavor to be sexually appealing because the high taxes of Kennebunk(port?) have forced her towards a destructive life of prostitution. It is through this lifestyle which she gained her tolerance of homosexuals. In 1997 her “Madam,” a woman named Ms. Berrykins, invited her over for a few glasses of fine cabernet. A summer storm knocked a tree down, blocking the the driveway to Ms. Berrykin’s home and preventing Naran from leaving. Another bottle was opened, and after some awkward drunken foreplay Naran and Ms. Berrykins initiated their brief yet bitter affair. Their safe word was “Auntie Mabel.”
Although Naran never forgave Ms. Berrykins for leaving her two weeks later (for a young Italian carpenter named “Giorggio,” no less), she henceforth gained a respect for the strong feelings a person can have towards a member of the same gender.
Giorggio and Ms. Berrykins moved to Naples (the original one, in Italy), where they married, had three children and lived happily ever after until Giorggio became entangled in the feared Carpenter’s Mafia, which killed him after he accrued large debts on purchases of hardwood, 4 inch nails, and drywall.
*Once upon a time, when this website was young, fresh, and idealistic, I thought Naran was a pretty decent moderator. She seemed reserved and fair. But for whatever reason this has dramatically changed. She now spends nearly every waking hour policing every opinion presented on the site, metaphorically humping the Governor’s leg but only because she can’t get an appointment to hump it in person. Any opinion critical of anything the Governor does or supports is attacked vehemently. And, when there is a lull in the activity on AMG, she hits the Portland Press Herald and comments up to 60 times each day.

The PPH ran a story this morning about the education “reforms” the governator wants to put into effect. Actually, one or two of them might be worthwhile, but the one getting all the attention is the funding of private (incuding religious) schools probably to the detriment of public schools. Pretty hot topic.
Naran got pretty hot, that’s for sure. As of 7:30 this evening she had made 70 posts to that forum. 70! That’s more than five an hour. She’s a machine, I tell you.
Of course, I don’t know what it says about me, sitting here counting how many idiotic statements that woman can make, but I’ve always liked statistics.

The problem with Naran’s statement is that even Dana Dow doesn’t believe it. Part of his platform (scaffold) was that he’d work for LePage’s re-election. Somehow in Naran’s fantasy world, a low turnout election doesn’t reflect the will of the electorate. As if the results would have been different if there had been a regular election turnout.

On a (kinda) serious note, I live in Naran country. I’m not quite sure who this “everyone” is that she is talking about. Since making sweeping statements is apparently o.k. in her view, I will make mine which is; The biggest suffering that the majority of people in this town are experiencing is having to pay a couple extra bucks for their beach parking permit. Now that’s suffering! Are there some people suffering from the economy here, sure…but “Everyone?” Well I suppose it could be possible that everyone she knows is suffering since there are probably only about two people in the area who would even own up to actually knowing her.

Matt, it’s terrible that you were attacked for your comments, and worse that what happened was twisted to appear as if you weren’t capable of having a conversation or debate, and worse yet that Naran tried to paint herself the victim.
She made no bones about announcing your personal information on the BDN article, and turned around and qualified her comments with the fact that you were articulating ‘the same thing’. It wasn’t her business to put it out there, regardless of the context.
As someone who brags about being ‘managing editor’ of that pablum she calls a forum, she should absolutely know better than to divulge information about someone, most especially what she did.
When I shared that she had scoured the internet for information about me, she told me I was lying, and that she had the emails in case I needed to remember. I reminded her that since I contacted her directly, I had them as well, so she’d need to be careful about editing out any snippets of information.
She was so bent on figuring out who I was after commenting on something she said on the PPH forum that she visited my webpage 17 times in a 24 hour period. What she cut and pasted was comments I’d made in the Kennebunk Post about a school district issue, along with the information she found on my website. No big whoop, because it only drove traffic to my site, but the lengths she will go to in order to discredit someone border on compulsive.
I hope that you have screenshots of what she posted on BDN, and I know that there is a commenter who grabbed screen shots of the entire AMG conversation, if you need them.

The most recent debacle in the BDN article was started by Naran, and there is no way to ‘cast aspersions’ that she said what she did, or acted in an untoward way. She both lambasted and disclosed information, and then told the subject of her comments to ‘stop whining’ about it.
It was a schoolyard bully taking the argument off the playground and barfing it all over another forum, which was not her business to do, and should have remained private, or on the AMG forum.

Erin, you can believe me when I state that I am the Anti-Naran. I knew her back in the day when she got herself excused from the Chamber. She thought it was a good idea to complain to the Board about the Director’s alleged extended lunch hours, and other critical matters. It seems as though it’s Naran who has been out to lunch ever since.
In the interim, other than having internet access and a great deal of rage, I wanted to know how she’s qualified to sit in judgment of so many others. Does she have a political science PhD, or did she run a presidential campaign I missed, or something like that?

Wilson, you make a good point. Maybe some day Naran will ‘get’ it. The response to her is exactly what she has asked for, in light of the way she treats anyone who disagrees with her, or says something unfavorable about certain Republicans currently in office that she admires.
