So the AMG thread on the people’s veto of the bill ending same-day registration said, in its title, that Yes on One thought Maine voters were “stupid.” At the time, it seemed to imply that Yes on One couldn’t get enough signatures to put the issue on the ballot.
But they did.
The title was kept, presumably to imply that Mainers were too intelligent to pass Yes on One.
But it has passed.
So what will they say now? Are 60% of Mainers stupid?
By As Maine Goes standards Maine voters are dumber than a post, and I’m proud to say that, by their standards, I am too.
I wonder which one of AMG’s LeRage Lovin’ Loonies will be the first to claim that the defeat of Questions 2 and 3 show how Mainers agree with our “esteemed” gov., completely ignoring how Yes On Vote shows how much most of us think he’s a total d-bag.
What will they say? Why of course they’ll say 60% of Mainers (of Maine voters, actually) are stupid – too stupid, in fact, to be allowed to vote. So they’ll try the other tack – required photo ID. Coming at you in January. Big intrusive government brought to you by the statists in the Maine GOP.
I’ll bet there’s a pretty high correlation between the 61% who voted against LePage and the 61% who voted to restore same-day registration. So maybe the progressive base really is greater than 19%. Who knew?
Can’t wait to hear Tom C’s spin on this.
His spin is already up; he thinks the victory will only give false hope to liberals. It is a small, insignificant issue, he says.
I want to see Jon McKane’s spin. The guy lied his way through the entire campaign, competing only with Naran in the upper echelons of a “believing your own lies to the point of absurdity” competition that so many Republicans joined, albeit on a more amateurish level.
Tom C is clearly missing the point that even if this is a small, insignificant issue (which it isn’t) that this episode in Maine politics demonstrates that the Legislature shouldn’t try to cram things down peoples’ throats without recognizing that the Peoples’ Veto is an available and effective tool.
Of course, when that tool was used against marriage equality, it was a mission from God, so it was OK.
On the AMG thread:
Tom C: “Now the lefties get a moral boost from this pointless victory, and say “things are turning around.”
I take it Tom was the kid in school who, when he didn’t get the good swing in the playground, said that swinging was for little kids and he didn’t want it anyways.
